  • Rishi Sunak won the race to be the leader of the Conservative Party and became the next Prime Minister of England.
  • Earlier, Liz Truss resigned after 45 days in office amid the economic crisis in England.

  • An Iranian man nicknamed the “Dirtiest man in the world” for not taking a shower for decades has died at the age of 94, state media reported on Tuesday.

Indian Railways to set up ‘Restaurant on Wheels’ at 4 more stations in Maharashtra

  • Indian Railways will soon set up ‘Restaurant on Wheels’ at four more stations in Maharashtra to give train passengers a different dining experience with a modified coach mounted on the tracks.
  • Earlier, the Central Railways had opened one such restaurant at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai last year and another one at Nagpur station earlier this year under the Non Fare Revenue Scheme.

‘Honesty Shops’ launched for school students in Ernakulam, Kerala

  • Schools in Kerala’s Ernakulam district have introduced “honesty shops” for students up to class 12.
  • This initiative was launched by the Student police cadet with the aim of cultivating valuable lessons on trust, truth and integrity for students.
    • There are no shopkeepers or salesmen in these shops
    • Students calculate the amount to buy and place the money in the collection box.

Air quality level in Delhi recorded in ‘Very Poor’ category

  • The air quality level in Delhi was recorded in the ‘Very Poor’ category as people burst crackers despite the ban in Diwali. According to Central Pollution Control Board, the Air Quality Index stood at 326 at Oct 25, 7 AM.
  • This is the first “very poor” air day of the season for the national capital. Gurgaon and Noida also recorded air quality in the “very poor” category, with respective AQIs of 322 and 305. An AQI between 301 and 400 is considered to be “very poor” and can cause respiratory illness on prolonged exposure according to the Central Pollution Control Board.

One Time Property Tax amnesty Scheme ‘SAMRIDDHI 2022-23’:

  • Delhi Lt. Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena on October 25 launched a one-time property tax amnesty scheme “SAMRIDDHI 2022-23”.
  • He saying it will provide a major relief to lakhs of residential and commercial property owners in the city.
  • SAMRIDDHI, an acronym for Strengthening and Augmentation of Municipal Revenue for Infrastructure Development in Delhi, will start on October 26 and end on March 31, 2023, with no further extensions.

  • Elizabeth Jones previously served as Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Assistant Secretary of State and Ambassador to Kazakhstan.
  • The Biden administration has appointed Elizabeth Jones, a senior Foreign Service official, to the US Embassy in New Delhi on an interim basis, according to an official announcement.

India included among top 12 chess playing nations for Men’s World Team Chess Championship 2022

  • In chess, teams from 12 top chess-playing nations, including India, China, the United States and the Netherlands, have been added to the line-up for the 2022 Men’s World Team Chess Championship to be held in Jerusalem, Israel, next month.
  • The list for the competition, which begins on November 20, was finalized after South Africa confirmed its participation over the weekend, the Israel Chess Federation (ICF) said.

India win two more medals at the ISSF World Championship

  • India won a silver medal in the women’s 25m Pistol team event and a bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 Positions (3P) event at the ISSF World Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
  • With the win, India ended its quest for Paris 2024 Olympics quota two away from the championship. Their tally now stands at 12 gold, nine silver and 13 bronze medals.
