Assam Govt To Give Scooters To Nearly 36,000 Meritorious Students; Mostly Girls

Assam Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, announced that a proposal for implementing the programme of distributing scooters to approximately 36,000 students. After meeting chaired by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Education minister told reporters about this programme implementation at a cost of ₹258.9 crore.

Assam To Give Scooters To Nearly 36,000 Students

The Assam government will distribute scooters among nearly 36,000 meritorious students, mostly girls, who have passed this year’s higher secondary examinations.

Meritorious Students in Assam

Total 35,800 students will be awarded with scooters out of which 29,748 students are girls who secured first division and 6,052 boys who secured 75 per cent marks.
Financial Assistance by DHE: The Department of Higher Education (DHE) will also provide financial assistance for registration and insurance to the students.

Renumeration of Assistant Professors

  • The cabinet also decided to increase the monthly remuneration of assistant professors of Assam working for fixed pay in provincialised colleges to ₹55,000, as decided in the cabinet meeting, the minister told.

Other Highlights of Meeting

  • The cabinet also decided on the guidelines for issuing certificates to hill tribes in plains and plain tribes in hills, Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said.
  • The caste certificates will be issued by the deputy commissioners under ‘Mission Bhumiputra’ to help them avail economic, educational and employment benefits provided by the state government, he said.
  • To boost tourism, it was also decided that a hotel will be developed in Kaziranga by the Hyatt Group, Baruah said.

Mission Bhumiputra Highlights

The Deputy Commissioners will provide new format of applications of caste certificates to the headmasters of all educational institutions.
Caste certificates will be available in Digi locker, as per IT Act. It will be digitally signed by respective Deputy Commissioners.
