Apply for NMMSS Scholarship for your ward

The central government scholarship scheme for students was launched in 2008 with the aim to stop meritorious students of economically weaker sections from dropping out at class 8 and encourage them to continue their education at least up to class 10th.

One lakh fresh scholarships are awarded to selected students of class 9th every year. The students who have already received the scholarship can also apply for renewal. The renewal helps students continue their education from class 10th to 12th.

The scheme covers students who study, or want to study in, state government, government-aided and local body schools. The amount of the scholarship is Rs. 12000/- per annum from 1st April 2017 (earlier it was Rs. 6000/- per annum).

Eligibility:

  • Students whose parental income from all sources is not more than Rs. 3,50,000/- per annum are eligible to avail of the scholarships.
  • The students must have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in the Class 7 examination for appearing in the selection test for the award of a scholarship (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students).
  • There are two levels of verification, L1 is Institute Nodal Officer (INO) Level and L2 is District Nodal Officer(DNO) level.
  • The last date for INO level (L1) verification is 30th November 2022 and for DNO level (L2) verification is 15th December 2022.

How a student is selected for NMMSS Scholarship?

The rules are different for Fresh and Renewal Students. We cover each, one at a time.

For Freshers: First-time aspirants

  • Each State/UT conducts its own test for the selection of students for the NMMSS Scholarship.
  • The test is conducted at the stage of class 8.
  • There are 2 tests and the student has to clear both of them: the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
  • Anyone who scores 40 % marks in aggregate, is declared qualified for the scholarship.
  • The passing marks for the SC/ST students are only 32%.

Selection of Renewal Awardees Students:

  • The awardees should get a minimum of 60% marks in Class 10th for the continuation of the scholarship (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST candidates) in the next higher classes.
  • For continuing the scholarship in classes 10th and 12th, the awardees should get a clear promotion from class 9th to class 10th and from class 11th to class 12th on the first attempt.

How the scholarship money is given?

  • The scholarship amount is directly put into the student account in SBI through DBT.
