- Applicants must have a mechanic’s certificate in motor vehicles, diesel engines, or heat engines.

- Having an Industrial Training Institute or comparable mechanic’s certificate in internal combustion engine / tractor;
- or
- Having obtained a Defence Trade Certificate from an Army Institute or a similar Defense establishment, or having completed the Vehicle Mechanic Class II Course as prescribed in the Defence Service Regulations (Qualification Regulations for Soldiers) from the Office of Records or Centres or a similar Defence establishment.
