Over 151 people killed in a stampede in South Korea, national mourning declared

South Korea has declared a period of national mourning after a stampede in a Halloween event crush-killed 151 people on the 29th of October. Many injured are still struggling for their lives and the death toll is very likely to increase in the coming hours. The unfortunate accident took place in a congested nightlife area in Seoul. The crowd was celebrating the first public Halloween in the country in 3 years as the Covid-restrictions on public gatherings were recently lifted by the government.
The disaster is among the country’s deadliest since a 2014 ferry sinking that killed 304 people, mainly high school students.
Most of the victims are partygoing teenagers and adults – mostly women in their 20s.
